This area of Study corresponds closely to the Preliminary Core Unit 6PC3 Aboriginal beliefs and Spirituality

Through undertaking this area of study students will be able to achieve the following Unit Outcomes

  • explain the links between Aboriginal cosmology, value systems, Dreaming stories, symbolism, art forms and ritual practices
  • locate and explain biblical references that illuminate the nature of religious experience, cosmology and the religious significance of land

Approaches to Learning

The approaches suggested below indicate a range of strategies that may be undertaken to allow students to engage with the requirements of this part of the syllabus. Teachers may wish to use one or more of these approaches in addressing this area of study. The suggestions are intended as a guide only and are not exhaustive.

  • Use a map of Aboriginal Australia to identify the diversity of Aboriginal groups throughout Australia
  • Identify which groups lie in proximity to each other and which are more geographically remote from each other
  • Discuss issues of different terrain, different local flora and fauna etc to highlight some sources of diversity in stories, ceremonies etc
