This Area of Study corresponds to elements of the following units. Preliminary Course Core Unit 6PC2 Jesus of history; Christ of faith and HSC Core Unit 6HSCC3 Living Texts.
Through undertaking this area of study students will be able to achieve the following Unit Outcomes

- give expression to personal understandings, questions and beliefs about the person and mission of Jesus
- describe and explain Jesus' response to fundamental questions about the nature of the human person, human life and destiny
- identify and analyse the role Jesus plays in enabling others to respond to fundamental human questions
- study gospel accounts highlighting the way Jesus challenged and confronted structures, authorities, people and values of his time
- critically reflect upon the ways Christians today challenge and confront structures, authorities, people and values
HSCC3
- explain the meaning of 'revelation' and the significance of Jesus' example and teachings in Scripture and Tradition for Catholics in moral decision making
Approaches to Learning
The approaches suggested below indicate a range of strategies that may be undertaken to allow students to engage with the requirements of this part of the syllabus. Teachers may wish to use one or more of these approaches in addressing this area of study. The suggestions are intended as a guide only and are not exhaustive.
- Tell a story of family life omitting or glossing over any details of female members of the family - discuss the implications of storytelling of this sort.
- Read selected texts to highlight Fiorenza's thesis.
- Examine prayers from the liturgy which use exclusive language. Formulate alternative ways to express prayers using inclusive language.
- Examine texts which present a male image of God
- Examine texts which present a female image of God
